Discover Lorraine

Lorraine is a city of Quebec (Canada) located in the Lower Laurentians in the Regional County Municipality (MRC) of Thérèse-De Blainville about 25 km north of Montreal.
Description Lorraine was founded in 1960. Its vocation is almost exclusively residential. No industry is located on the territory of the city. Only a very limited commercial area is located at the main entrance of the city, along Highway 640. The Place Lorraine shopping center comprises three buildings and includes a medical center, a pharmacy, a grocery store, an SAQ and some shops . Almost the entire public electricity distribution network is buried. A large part of the city is bordered by a forest (Grand Coteau Forest) where ski and walking trails are arranged.
In the RCM: Thérèse-De Blainville.
The territory of Lorraine covers 6.04 km². The city is divided into two distinct sectors, the north sector and the south sector, separated by the 640 highway. The sectors are often called Lorraine-en-Haut (Uptown) and Lorraine-en-Bas (Downtown).

History This city was founded in 1960 on the Garth domain, which would have served as headquarters to the British army during the Patriotes rebellion in 1837. The Garth House, built in 1833, is a historical monument, although still used. This model residential community was founded as part of a federal program of the now-defunct Ministry of Urban Affairs, which encouraged the creation of "new cities," the only one of its kind in Canada [ref. necessary].
